WBC orders immediate rematch between Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez.
Last weekend’s super middleweight slugfest between Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez has a sequel on deck.
Less than a week after their punishing 10-round draw on the Canelo vs Crawford PPV, the WBC has ordered interim super middleweight champion Christian Mbilli and unbeaten contender Lester Martinez to begin negotiations for an immediate rematch.
Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KO) spent the fight in constant forward motion, muscling his way into the pocket and uncorking bombs to the head and body. Initially struggling to keep the stronger man off of him, Martinez (19-0-1, 16 KO) steadily took over the bout with heavy counters as Mbilli began to tire. With so little daylight between them when the final bell rang, few griped about the results, though Mbilli may be cranky about losing whatever tiny possibility existed of a megafight with Crawford.
Not generally a fan of immediate rematches, but these two made a very compelling case. It just better be 12 rounds this time.
